From the Kilim collection, this embroidery was inspired by traditional Ukrainian hand-woven carpets with strong geometric patterns and decorative fringe.   The sleeves and skirt panels are embellished with hand-draped pleats ("pukhlyky").  In Ukrainian culture these pleats represent fertility and prosperity, so they are made with great care and attention using an age-old technique.
